Who Dares Works!
Hot on the heels of being named FSB Worldpay UK Ethical Business of the Year 2016 and Best Third Sector Business in the Cornwall Business Awards, Active Plus have been successful in reaching stage two of the Big Lottery “Building Better Opportunities” programme, jointly funded by the National Lottery and the European Social Fund.
Active Plus, a social enterprise that uses the skills and life experiences of injured military veterans to inspire others, has been awarded funding to develop their innovative “Who Dares Works” programme in two areas, West Cornwall and “Atlantic and Moor” which stretches along the North Coast from Newquay to Bude and inland to include Bodmin and Launceston.
Managing Director Tim Cocks said “This is another exciting development for Active Plus. Who Dares Works will help almost 2000 people who need the most support to be ready for work, overcoming the barriers and circumstances that are holding them back. We are working with a team of great local organisations to develop the programme and receiving fantastic support from the Big Lottery”
If successful with the stage two applications, the Big Lottery and European Social Fund will invest over £6million into Who Dares Works. Carolyn Webster, who is leading the development stage for Active Plus said “This is a significant opportunity to make a real difference for people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who might be struggling to get into work for a variety of reasons. Through Who Dares Works, our partnership will not only deliver the right support in the right place at the right time, it will also provide a focus on the underlying issues and causes that hold people back and work strategically with local and national bodies to tackle these so that the programme has a lasting impact”
