Double-investment for Active Plus

Active Plus, has had a double boost this week with confirmation of grant-funding from both the Royal British Legion and the Government’s Armed Forces Covenant Fund.

We have received £38,000 from the Royal British Legion for a Veterans Partnership Manager to recruit, support and develop employment opportunities for wounded, injured and sick ex-forces personnel. The grant of £43,000 from the Covenant Fund will help military veterans within the criminal justice system to make a sustained transition into civilian life.

Managing Director, Tim Cocks said: “This is the first time we have received grants from military organisations and we are really pleased that our unique model of helping wounded, injured and sick military veterans has been recognised. The demand for our services, all delivered by military veterans, is increasing, and as a result of this business growth we need to engage, recruit and support more veterans through our volunteer pathway and on into employment with Active Plus and others. We’d like to say a huge thank-you to the Royal British Legion and the Covenant fund for their support.”

The new annual Covenant fund was launched in June 2015, demonstrating the Government’s long-term commitment to supporting schemes under the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly. The 2015 fund priorities are community integration, the coordination and delivery of support to the Armed Forces community, and veterans in the criminal justice system. Active Plus will support 40 veterans in the criminal justice system across Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, to rebuild their skills and increase their long-term prospects of employment, and in doing so reduce the likelihood of re-offending.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said:  “The new fund strategically targets areas of need. Every year, this £10m will go towards worthy projects that fully promote the principles of the Covenant.”
